"How You Can Eliminate Your Headache By Getting To the
Cause." The Cause
Headaches occur in millions of people everyday. If you
suffer from one, you know how they can affec the quality of
your life. Popping a pill, stretching, and getting a
massage can all help alleviate the symptoms temporarily; but
none of them get to the cause.
The most common type of headache is a tension
headache. This type of headache originates from namely
from stress: postural and chemical. Dr. Dingsor at
Watertown Chiropractic specializes in the treatment of this
type of headache. Many patients from Watertown, SD and
the surrounding area come to see him for his special knowledge
in this area.

Posture plays a big role in the cause of headaches. If
you sit at a desk all day or stand in one place all day
performing the same task for eight to ten hours per day, you
may be putting a tremendous amount of stress on you joints and
muscles. This leads to changes over time causing certain
postural muscles to shorten and other muscles to
lengthen. If you take your hands and can feel tension and
tender points in the fleshy area that connects your neck to
your shoulder (the upper trapezius muscle) and notice you have
rounded forward shoulders you may have what's called
upper crossed syndrome.

Upper crossed syndrome was first described by professor
Janda. He found that most neck, shoulder, mid-back, and
headaches problems can stem from this syndrome. If you
have tight chest muscles, tight upper shoudlers, and tight
muscles at the base of your neck; you probably have this
syndrome.
This type of postural problems puts tremendous stress on the
joints and the nervous system leading to headaches and other
problems. Headaches are usually the result of other
multiple problems: TMJ pain, whiplish, shoulder
injuries.
Treatment
Dr. Dingsor specializes in treating headaches through
eliminating the tension in the tight muscles and the
restrictions in the key joints. Then he will teach you
how to stretch certain key muscles and strengthen other muscles
to help prevent or minimize the chance of it coming
back.
Now if you return to doing something 8-10 hours per day that
causes the problem, you may have period flare-ups. But
these can be minimized by teaching you the exercises and having
periodic check-ups through adjusting the spine.
