SHOULDER PAIN TIP 4

“How Nutrition Can Help Heal Your Pain”

Watertown, SD--Too many people resort to drugs and muscle relaxants to help them get “better.”  What you may not realize is that most drugs are harmful to the liver and the joint(s) and muscle(s) you are trying to heal.  Numerous studies have shown that taking anti-inflammatories actually accelerates the loss of cartilage in your joints.  They also are the number one cause of bleeding ulcers, which cause 20,000 deaths per year.  These stats are something you never hear about because the drug companies stand to lose a lot of money.

As a doctor, I teach my patients that you are what you eat.  The food you eat today becomes the eye cells, liver cells, and skin cells tomorrow.  So ask yourself this question:  “Do you want your liver, joints, and muscle cells to be made up of pop, French fries, and a Big Mac or do you want them to be made out of fresh greens, lean organic protein like beef, and veggies?”

Eating habits boil down to choices.  You choose what you eat and you can control what you buy at the grocery store.  It takes some planning, but you can change how you eat.

Your goal should be to consume at least eight servings of fruits and veggies a day along with a lean protein source.

Take small steps with this.  Don’t worry if you mess up, because you can always start over tomorrow.  Make the goal of adding one good food to your diet per week and eliminating one bad food per week.

For example:  add eating one apple per day or fruit of your choice to two meals per day (good habit).  Eliminate drinking pop or cut back by half (the bad habit).

The goal is to tip the balances in favor of consuming my omega-3 fatty acids and eliminating the omega-6 fatty acids.
