“How to
Reduce Shoulder Pain Through Releasing Scar Tissue”
Scar Tissue plagues most shoulder problems. Here at Watertown Chiropractic, Dr. Bryan Dingsor specializes
in techniques that eliminate scar tissue in your shoulder.
How
does scar tissue form? Scar tissue is a by-product of inflammation and micro-tears in your muscle. If you have a
job where you do motions repetitively, you put your shoulder at risk for injury. The most common areas to
develop scar tissue are the rotator cuff tendons. Through the use of
Active Release Techniques and the SASTM tool (the purple tool), we can reduce most of the adhesions that cause
many of the following problems:
- Bursitis
or Impingement
- Rotator Cuff Tendonosis/Tear
- AC joint DJD/Separation
- Bicipital Tendonitis
- Labral Tear
Another reason why you have scar tissue is due
to postural stress on the shoulders. If you notice that your
shoulder slump forward, you put undue stress on the shoulder. This
leads to what is called “shoulder impingement”.
Impingement is what creates tendonitis, bursitis, and degenerative tears in the rotator cuff.
Look
at the picture below and you’ll see what muscle imbalances develop in your body that creates stress on your
shoulders and neck.

Now
take your finger and feel over the front of the shoulder and if you find areas of tenderness and hard nodules,
you more than likely have scar tissue in the rotator cuff. If you
notice that you have an audible “click” in your shoulder when you raise your arm over head, you probably have
scar tissue in the rotator cuff.
At
Watertown Chiropractic, Dr. Dingsor specializes in two techniques that have been shown in studies to help reduce
and eliminate scar tissue in your shoulder. The first technique is
Active Release Technique and the other is Sound Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization. These both
work by breaking down the scar tissue and freeing nerves and tissues from sticking to each other.
These
two techniques may hurt some while they are being performed, but you will feel a big reduction in pain and
increased range of motion after each treatment. Most patients feel
at least 80% better after two weeks of treatment. The breaking down
of scar tissue is a process. Each treatment works out deeper layers
of scar tissue in your shoulder. If you have any questions, feel
